Friends, here is a blessing for you this Christmas Eve and Day.
A Blessing for Christmas Eve
Whatever your year has been, wherever it has taken you,
Whatever difficult or easy pathway,
And whatever winding or steep road,
You are still pedaling, still learning, still moving forward. Or maybe you took a spill this year? It happens.
It is okay to rest now. Take a moment to catch your breath.
Look around at where you are. Give thanks.
Recall what the seasons brought.
See the stars, the sun, the moon, the clouds, the rain.
Feel the breeze on your face and the ground under your feet.
Grieve. Lament. Laugh. Rejoice. Breathe. Sing.
This evening we remember together the possibility that God meets us on the road.
We celebrate the birth of love, an advent of grace.
May it renew, inspire, encourage, embolden, and lift your spirit. May this timeless moment of hope restore your sense of direction and purpose.
And may you ride again in joy.
Gifts for you
Today I’m sending my final Advent podcast — it’s all about Mary. This is her day. She shows up often in my life. And she is a main character in the stories I find myself telling surprisingly often. Here’s how she has inspirited this season: Podcast No. 63 Advent reflections.
And from my students at Central Seminary a collaboration that will help you to survive the holidays: A YOUTH JOURNAL & LISTENING GUIDE for adults. Please download for your use, enjoy, and share it with parents, youth workers and young people that you love.
